Cyclone Electric Bike kit 360W motor running on LiPo Helicopter batteries

Cyclone Electric Bike kit 360W motor running on LiPo Helicopter batteries

Cyclone kit with 360W motor. I used RC helicopter batteries to power the bike. They are 2 22.2V, 5AH LiPo batteries run in parallel for 10AH total capacity. These are each at Hobbyking plus shipping. The bike draws about 10.4A at 19.6 mph so roughly 19 miles range according the the math (hills, wind, pedaling matter a lot). Max current with the built-in speed control is 32A. The battery is rated at 200A max so there is no problem there. Battery pack plus charger weighs 1.8 kg. Being able to use the bike’s gears with the motor is a huge plus because you don’t need a powerful motor for hills, just use low gear.

I have owned and ridden hub motor bikes, a Zap friction drive bike, and this Cyclone kit. Overall I like the direct drive hub motors the best because they are so simple, reliable and quiet. However in a hilly area the Cyclone would definitely be better.
