The Smiling Crane Operator- Full Flight, 3D FPV RC Helicopter HD Onboard Camera Rollei Bullet 5s

Unique footage, only possible with the ultimate FPV helicopter.
2nd of 3 flights of that day.

FPV flight, recorded with onboard HD camera Rollei Bullet 5s.
The picture in the video goggles is only 640×480 pixels and gets recorded by a second camera. This is necessary due to the time lag of HD video transmission.

Setup:
Mikado Logo 500 3D V-Bar/ V-Stabi (Schweighofer Combo V1)
Align T-Rex 600 landing gear, fixed with 4 plastic screws
Robbe Roxxy 9100-6 100A ESC (Settings: Governor- On, Governor response- Low, Acceleration- Highest, Motor timing- 18°)
Scorpion HK-4025-1100KV Mikado Edition with 5mm shaft, 14 tooth pinion, max. continuous power 2200 W
Turnigy 25C or 40C, 6s 22,2V 5000mAh LiPo battery
Jeti SBEC external BEC (UBEC), 6V voltage output
10V 2200?F buffer capacitor for the BEC
3x Savox SC-1257 TG digital swash plate servos, 20mm servo arm length
1x Savox SC-1290 MG digital tail servo, 14mm servo arm length
Mikado Mini VStabi/VBar Blueline 5.3 pro
Edge 523 FBL main rotor blades
Mikado 85mm tail rotor blades (plastic)
Graupner- JR MX-16S, 40 Mhz transmitter (+ emergency booster)
Graupner/JR SMC-19 DS 40 MHz receiver with 1,75m antenna (Lamda/4) and rod antenna
Approx. 1800 rpm headspeed at low-RPM mode, 2100 rpm at high-RPM mode
Approx. +12° -12° collective pitch

FPV Setup:
1,3 GHz 800 mW video transmitter from BEVRC (www.bevrc.com) with home-made cloverleaf antenna
Lawmate 1,3 GHz (1.2, 1.3 GHz) video receiver with home-made skew-planar-wheel antenna
Video receiver powered with 11,1V LiPo battery
1,2 or 1,3 GHz transmitters are legal in Austria with Radio (Ham) License between 1240 and 1300 MHz up to 200W
WDR700 (= KPC-DNR700PHB) PAL camera (Sony Super HADII CCD), factory (= default) settings, I’ve tried other settings but default is the best in my opinion
Fat Shark RCV922 Aviator Edition video goggles
Microphone
Weight FPV gear: approx. 100 g
Powering the FPV gear in the helicopter with a 3s 11,1V Rhino 20C 750mAh Lipo battery with a BEC connector
Ferrite ring (= toroid), 16V 1000µF Capacitor against interference (= LC- filter), but that’s not necessary when powering the FPV gear with a separate battery like in this setup. But I already had the wiring from my previous FPV helicopter.

TK102 tracker (cheap clone from ebay) to find the helicopter in case of a crash via GPS. I have removed the plastic housing to save weight. The GPS position gets transmitted to a cell phone.
I have the “NAVIN ZNEX miniHomer 2.8” to find the GPS position.

FPV Recording:
Video splitting with a simple Y-cable
Canon MVX200i Mini DV PAL Camcorder (DV-AVI, 720×576, 25 fps)
Deinterlacing with “Alparysoft Deinterlace” (Advanced method, ME search enabled) ,saved with “Cedocida DV Codec” and Virtual Dub
Editing with Corel VideoStudio Pro X4
Compressing with Xvid, Single Pass, Quantizer 2 (approx. 72 MB per minute), MP3 256 kps CBR Stereo (I take PCM 16bit, 48000Hz, Stereo now because Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 has no MP3 option anymore)
This is the best possible quality in my opinion (with this camera, transmitter setup)

Onboard HD recording and video editing:
HD camera “Rollei Bullet 5s”, inside the protective housing
Recorded in 960p, 50 fps
Editing with Corel VideoStudio Pro X4, compressing with XVid, Single Pass, Quantizer 2-3, audio PCM 16bit, 48000Hz, Stereo; the video is still 960p and 50fps here.
I have to reduce gamma to “-8” in Corel VideoStudio to prevent the gamma bug from “.mov” files, but then the output is the same.
Uploaded to Youtube with 720p, 25fps.
Therefore I have cropped the final video (crop filter) and resampled the frames per second (resample FPS) with the free program Avidemux, compression H.264, audio AAC.
I have the best settings for H.264 and XVid from internet tutorials.

AUW of the helicopter: approx. 3500g
Maximum flight time (slow flying, low RPM, battery completely empty): 14 min. (350 mAh/min energy consumption)
Average flight time: 9 min.
Range: more than 1400m with this setup

Costs:
Helicopter ready to fly, with FPV and HD camera, approx. 1800 Euro
Complete setup approx. 3300 Euro
