HOW TO: Coaxial RC Helicopter Hacks

After last week’s project, I got interested in making my coaxial helicopter fly better. I spent a few days trying different mods and this video explains what worked and how to do them. Visit the project page here: http://hackaweek.com/hacks/?p=735

I'VE DONE SAME THAN YOU WITH THE FLYBAR, I HAVE ONE LIKE YOURS BUT SMALLER, INFRARED. AND I I NTENDED TO REDUCE WEIGHT WITHOUT DECREASE FLYBAR PERFORMANCE. ALSO I DESIGNED FULLY NEW ROTOR BLADES FROM PLASTIC CARDS, FULLY NEW SHAPE BY CROP, CARBEN AND POLISHEING, I ALSO SHARPEN THE END EDGES OF THE MAIN ROTOR AND THE TAIL ROTOR PROPELLER. BEFORE HACK IT, WHEN AT END OF BATERY CHARGE, IT USED TO MOVE AT GROUND LEVEL, CAUSE NOT ENOUGH POWER TO HOVER, BUT NOW, WITH THE PERFORMANCE HACK OF THOSE PARTS, IT CAN FLY IN THE AIR UP TO THE VERY END OF BATERY CHARGE REGULATION LIMIT, WHEN IT DECREASES SLOWLY THE SPEED AND THEN TURN OFF, TO MAKE AN AUTOMATIC LANDING. I'D LIKE BUY ONE BIGGER, HEHE, BUT COAXIAL TOO, TO FLY OUTSIDE?

+Hack A Week great video! Took the stabilizers and led out of my cheap rc heli and it's like a completely different toy. I have to find some thin plastic to put on my prop though. ?

Hackaweektv If the battery on your heli over heat would the heli slow come down out the sky because i'll charge my heli and it will do that at 5 minuts?

    Hey Dean,
Saw this video and had a problem for you if you can give a solution to it. I have a cheap coaxial rc heli and after some bad landings, it now has the problem of rotating around it's axis always in one direction, never remaining stable or never taking up flight. It doesn't have a motor on the tail prop – there's just a movable propeller, but no motor. The remote has trim buttons, but they don't seem to work to correct the rotating problem.?

  • Coleman Jones:

Hello, My name is Frank. Today I modified the exploiter s sky rover. I removed the lower half of the tail rotor housing. I then manufactured a tail rotor lower housing to accept a slightly larger motor. I cut and soldered the wires back together. I did not put the rear red light onto the manufactured lower half of the rotor housing, instead I placed it on the tail shaft. The new larger tail rotor motor performs good. Now the helicopter will fly forward and backward really good.?
