    Big Smile – take your time ! ( there’s a new model ), October 23, 2014

Ken – in Miami (Miami, FL) –

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

( 12-14-2015 ) TODAY the federal government ( The FAA ) issued a requirement to register drones weighing more than 250 grams ( which the X5C does NOT ). The requirement is backed up by threats of fines and prosecution. On the other hand, the FAA issues one registration to you for use on all your drones – which would help with lost drone recovery. Please read the official FAA info / registration page: http://www.faa.gov/uas/registration/ btw- the reg is $ 5.00 but currently refunded. [“Penalties for failing to register could reach $27,500 in civil fines and $250,000 and three years in prison for criminal penalties.”] AGAIN * NOT * required of SYMA X5C or X8C series – but what the heck, the don’t say you can’t !

( 12-9-2015) New Flash for X-Mas: The X5C and the ( improved ? ) X5SC HAVE A CAMERA. The cheaper X5 does not ! Carefully read the product description before ordering !

( 11-12-2015 ) Before you buy a “drone” for yourself or especially as a gift – be sure that parts are available. SYMA PARTS fairly easy to get. I bought “something else” and the inevitable happened. Too bad, So sad. Do an Amazon search for the usual replacements ( props, motors, batteries, plastic stuff ) before your potential purchase.

SYMA RELEASED a quad with headless mode and additional features – check it out:
    “Syma X5SC Explorers 2 – 2.4G 4 Channel 6-Axis Gyro RC Headless Quadcopter With HD Camera “
    before you order the X5C ! ( update 7-23-2015 )

CONSIDER Syma X8C Venture with 2MP Wide Angle Camera for about 85 bucks. Much more ‘copter in every way. But back-ordered by many sellers for the holidays AND twice the price of the X5SC / twice as sad if it flies away and is lost !
    ( update 10-26-2015 )

The best flying toy in my collection so far ( a bunch of expensive heli’s and a couple of quads )

No instructions in ANY language included. Look online or learn on a SYMA X-1 quad. Box came early from China but was beat-up. Fortunately this is a tough little quad !

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCED – you will be OK without the blade guards ( which are a nuisance and add weight ). Otherwise learn with incremental progress – and no regrets.

A tip: put a strip of brightly colored tape or paper on the back of the body of the quad so you can see the orientation from a distance. It gets very small very fast when it is high and the wind is taking it away. Knowing how it is pointed may be the last chance to bring it back ” ;-( ” [ and add a name tag or address / phone in magic marker ]

The Camera – comes with 2GB Micro-SD with proof-pictures from the factory in China. Way Cool !

The camera is made to still frame / video using the UP-DOWN TRIM control on the LEFT SIDE of the controller. There ! .. .. .. I just saved you the pain of sending back a “broken” camera ! After the controller is linked – look at the light on the bottom of the camera. Green is “ready”. Push the trim UP to take one frame ( one RED blink ) Push the trim DOWN to start video ( periodic, continuing RED blinking ) Push a second time to stop video and save file ! ( stop + save the video – don’t just kill the power ! otherwise you get a ” 0 ” byte file size. )

( 3-9-2015 Blurry pix can be caused by camera not in good focus adjustment ’cause of shipping vibration. MARK the lens ring and camera case for reference then try turning the ring to change the focus. Also – carefully clean the lens ! )

IF YOU WANT CORRECT TIME STAMPS ON YOUR CAPTURE FILES – here’s the secret. You won’t find this anywhere else – so be generous with your thanks !

Use notepad or other text editor. create a file on the micro-SD card named “time.txt” with the content ( on one line ) and WITHOUT the quotes ! “yyyy/mm/dd hh.mm.ss” example: “2014/10/23 21.10.00” and one carriage return
then save the file. This file will set the camera’s clock – for as long as the X5C is powered ON.

So maybe it’s a little under-powered and we’d like more flight time. This little ( TOY ) quad is a fantastic value, fun to fly, takes ( FUN ) pictures that you’ll love better than your buddy’s GoPro and $ 800 quad. Because it’s not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean that matters.

Since this little beast LOOKS LIKE A DRONE – and folks can’t tell that it’s just a little flying toy – you might want to be careful where you fly it. Like not over your neighbor’s swimming pool or outside their second – story window. On the plus side – it is small enough to hide under your shirt when the cops come.

This is a new release from SYMA and not always available. AMAZON sellers are the most reliable and least likely to disappoint. Folks who worry alot should look for a USA shipper ( if possible ) and…

Best Quadcopter to date for the money!, January 9, 2015
    By
Daniel Kirk (Middletown, New Jersey) –

Best Quadcopter to date for the money! The picture attached shows the SYMA quadcopter up about 200 feet or more. The house on the left with the orange roof is on a hill about 75 feet above me and my transmitter and as you can see I am way above that roof. I have 2 helicopters, 2 hubsan quadcopters, 1 with a 2mp camera and one without. I purchased the SYMA x5c from an Ebay seller who was in Calif. Didn’t want to wait the 30-45days from China. The Syma came with the landing gear attached, I didn’t need to install the blade guards because I am a veteran RC pilot. I used one of the already charged batteries from my hubsan. Yes they fit fairly well but flight time is less because they are only 380ma. The SYMA X5 flies great, better than the hubsan x4 and it is twice the size so you can see it better in the sky. Camera works great, the directions say to use the top right button but that is incorrect, the SYMA X5c is the newer model and there is a slide button on the front panel, slide it up to take a photo, slide it down to turn on the video. Video is 1280x 720 avi files. Same as the hubsan in HD. Here are my Pro’s and Cons:

    Pros:
Copter handles beautiful, love the feel, fun to fly
More stable than any $60 quad I have flown.
Like the ability to turn on the camera remotely
    Can also take pictures remotely
Size is perfect, about 12″, white and easy to find
Well built frame and camera videos are very good 2mp HD
    Battery easy to swap
I have had some crashes without the guards and the copter handles it
I don’t think there is another quadcopter this good with these features for $60 anywhere

    Cons:
Flight time is about 5-7 minutes
Copter blades shutoff when battery is low
(on the Hubsan you lose altitude and the lights flash to warn you)

Still loving this machine. There is a easy range modification that will change your controls from 30-50 meters to 80-85 meters.
    Just google it.
Also before flying this machine you should sit it on a level ground. Turn on the SYMA quadcopter, then turn on the transmitter. Next move the left control forward and backward. This will connect your transmitter to the quadcopter. Next hold both controls in the 5 o’clock position and wait till the light change from flashing to steady on the quadcopter. This procedure resets the quadcopter. It works great but you must be on level ground. I did this on my driveway which is on an angle and the copter flew to one side. I did it again on level ground and it hovered perfectly! Loving this Quadcopter! More updates to come.

    UPDATES:
I’ve made the easy tramsmitter modification and my control distance is way over 300 feet. I have flown this Quadcopter higher than I have ever flown any UDI copters or Hubsan Quadcopters. This is truly the best Quadcopter I have flown to date. Night flying is fun also, led’s at the bottom of the unit help you keep the quad aligned in the right direction. The quadcopter is a fantastic deal! The motors are powerful, the 500ma battery gives you 7 minutes of flight time. I have ordered two 600ma batteries. What else can I say I haven’t flown any of my other copters and really non of them are as much fun as this one!

    UPDATE:
Some experienced flyer I am. A gust of wind caught the quadcopter, I miss judged and it got caught in a tree branch. I put it in expert mode and it broke free, fell to the ground without a scratch! Lucky me.
