I bought this CP helicopter having had many WL products in the past (v911’s and v912’s). I also have a walkera v450d03 and a blade nano CPx. I’m trying to learn CP helicopters the best I can before taking the larger walkera 450 size heli out, which is why I bought the two small CP’s.

I think it’s somewhat fair to compare this to the blade nano CPX because they are both micro’s. This v977 is almost twice as heavy and a little larger overall, runs on a battery that is three times the capacity of the nano cpx, and has a brushless main motor, so it’s also not a completely fair comparison. I love the nano cpx so far- but this v977 is in a different league. It feels completely different- When you spool up the brushless motor you can tell it’s way more powerful than the nano cpx, and the motor does not bog down nearly as much with pitch pumps. The nano cpx however seems to ascend and descend faster even though the motor bogs down, because it’s so much lighter. The difference is the v977 has the power to stop itself when pumping up and down, where the nano takes a bit more time and space to stop moving up or down when given sudden pitch shifts. Also, there is no tail wag, which is a common problem with the blade nano (mine has that issue). The layout of the build is amazing because everything is extremely easy to access and replace if something goes wrong. Everything is essentially just laid out on a flat plank. The blade nano cpx is a mess of wires and parts stuffed into one clump, but it’s not awful to work on either. Parts for the v977 are significantly cheaper, and the quality and strength of the parts seems to be better. You’re definitely paying for the blade brand name and not the quality of parts with the nano.

In 6 axis gyro mode, this thing is INSANELY stable. It’s more stable than a FP helicopter even. It feels like you’re flying something much larger. Put it in 3d/3axis gyro mode though, and it’s twitchy as hell and easy to lose control of. The blade ncpx is stable enough for experienced pilots but the v977 in 6g mode is so stable that even a beginner could fly it. You don’t need ANY cyclic control to lift it off the ground. It literally just comes straight up and hovers there (the nano cpx some times shoots off to one side or the other). I would honestly recommend this helicopter over the blade, especially if you’re a beginner. It’s about the same price for an RTF package and this one is more stable, more powerful, and the parts are cheaper. I still love the nano though, especially for flying around in the house where it won’t really hurt anything it hits because of its small size and weight, and it’s a bit quieter with the stock brushed motor than the v977 with its powerful brushless motor. I would not want to get hit with the v977.

All around, this thing is awesome. I’ll update this in time to let everyone know how it holds up. It’s definitely built more heavy duty than the blade nano cpx though.

Amazing RC Heli!!! Great to start at 3D flight!, October 1, 2014
    By

This review is from: Wltoys V977 Power Star X1 6CH 2.4G 3D/6G Brushless Flybarless RC Helicopter RTF (Toy)
Not for very beginners. Don`t thing that you will buy and fly it upside down like the guys at youtube.
This Helicopter is the next step for who wants to start with Pro RC and already fly with 4 or 6 channel with assistance (gyro, balance bar, etc)
It`s has an amazing switch. You turn on or off the gyro assistance. If you are learning the controls and the flight mechanics, keep it on (the red light remain on at the controller). When you feel totally confortable flying it, you can try the non assistance flight mode (the red light at the controller blinks). When you switch the assistance mode off, it gets totally out of control at the beggining. Be very careful at this time to not crash it so much. The flight mechanics gets very different. But it`s possible to assume the control with pratice. If the things get complicated, turn the assitance on, it may avoid a crash. I loved the switch button.
It can handle with some wind. In strong wind you spend more energy trying just to control it. But when you look at the size, it makes a great job.
This model is not so much impact resistant. Some pieces may come out of place or out of allign, but don`t worry, just place it back, a feel adjustiments and it`s ready to fly again. I still didn`t crash it really hard, but I think iit may handle a few impacts. Just keep your eyes open during the impact, some parts can be lost (they are very small) if they come out of place.
The replacement parts are not difficult to find. I recommend to buy the rear blades (it comes with 1 pair of main blades), I may come ou easily, I`ve lost 1 already.
This is also more dangerous to fly around people. At the simplier versions the materials are more safe and the motor is not so fast. This is a 3D flight helicopter, therefor, the blade speed is incredible. It deliver more performance and allow acrobatics. So it may hurt if hit somebody. Try to fly in a open area.
The controller has good response. Easy to understand. Read the manual to be familiar with every buttom, it`s helps a lot to use alll resources. The display show clearly every information you need to know.
The batterie is very good. It`s lasting about 8 minutes of intense flight. It doesn`t come with wall charger, just the USB cable. I recommend to use a good walll charger, it may affect the recharging time of the battery. I also recommend to buy extra batteries. I have 3 in total.
The box it came packed is excellent! I use it to carry everywhere.

About the fun….I`m having a lot. This is nice and chalenging, exactly what I was looking for before get a Pro RC Helicopter!!
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

WLToys does it again – The V911 of CP helis, February 15, 2015
    By

WLToys does it again – This is the V911 of Collective Pitch (CP) helis, meaning that, just as WLToys’ V911 brings superior value to the Fixed Pitch (FP) segment, this WLToys V977 does the same for the Collective Pitch segment!

I’ll take it! My V977 is really the only CP that I fly anymore! I just like it better! The V977 punches above its weight. It’s fun – CHEAPER fun. In a class by itself. And VERY highly recommended!

The V977’s controller is also really very nice. It is simplified, but I feel that the basic settings (dual rates, throttle and pitch curves) are exactly as I would have set them myself (always following rchelicopterfun.com’s excellent advice).

And I agree with Mark’s review (the first review on the page, as I write this) that, whereas the Blade Nano CPx is a lovely piece of work, this V977 offers better controlability, repairability and value (although BNF versions cost about the same, the V977 feels and flies like a bigger machine and it is easier and cheaper to repair).

As Mark mentions, the V977’s blade speeds are ferocious, so it can do damage – but it can also handle a little wind and that’s very, very helpful to me! Again, it puts the V977 in a class by itself.

And, by the way, because of that blade speed, this is probably not a good choice for a kid or a beginner!

Excellent tool set for 450 sized helicopters, March 7, 2013
    By
D Taylor (San Tan Valley, AZ USA) –
    (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)

This review is from: Micro/Mini Heli Tool Assortment, 6 pc (Toy)
This tool set comes with all of the tools that are needed to work on a 450 sized helicopter. If you want tools for 500-550+ helicopters you’ll need a larger 3mm hex, and if you go down to 250 sized helicopters you will need smaller sizes, but for a 450 flier this set works great and meets the needs perfectly.

It comes with 6 pieces, which are: 2mm flat blade driver, #0 Phillips driver ; #00 phillips screwdriver, and the 3 hex head drivers, 1.5mm, 2.0mm and 2.5mm. If you want to work on a 500-550 you’ll also need a 3.0mm. If you want to work on a 250 you’ll also need a 1.3mm.

This set is very useful and functional when using them because they are straight, with handles and on the end of the handle is a small button that rotates. This allows you to easily hold the tool with a finger and then use the other fingers to rotate the tool. It’s SO much easier to do than trying to use an L shaped allen wrench. One additional benefit to using hex wrenches with long handles is that I magnetize these with my Magnetizer / Demagnetizer – WIHA Brand Magnetizer / Demagnetizer and that makes it easy to hold onto the screws and insert them deep down into the guts of a helicpoter. This is essential when trying to loosen the motor mounting screws on an Align 450 pro to get the gear mesh correct between the Pinion gear on the main motor and the teeth on the main gear.

*** After using many other sets of these hex tools, I am lowering my rating from 5 stars to 4, while these are useful nice tools to have around, there isn’t the larger 3.0mm in the set and they are not nearly as tight and quality cut tips as some of the higher priced brands.

4 stars, this a great set that I use often, but the quality isn’t nearly the same as that of the more expensive brands I have also tried.

Indispensable tool for RC Helicopter maintenance, June 11, 2012

You won’t regret getting this if you plan to fly and tune your helicopter a lot. You will have all the drivers needed for your Align or clone T-Rex 450 helicopter.

    Update 12/15/2013:

After using these for a while, I have found that the tips are not as strong as the genuine Align tools. I have purchased Align Hex and Screw Driver Set and Align HZ024 Hexagon Screw Driver, and have found that the Align tool tips hold up to much more use than this micro/mini tool set. If I were to start all over, I would only purchase Align HZ024 Hexagon Screw Driver. You simply grab-and-use, and don’t have to switch tips. Good luck with your purchase selection.
