Walkera 38# CH46 RC Helicopter. Modifications and tips

A video diary of the modifications made to this fascinating RC Electric helicopter. The video is presented in a ‘how to style’ but you modify at your own risk! That said I am very pleased with the results. Another note of caution! as the controls are now much more fierce, go steady when flying! this is not a stunt heli LOL OK May 2009 I have discovered that only one rotor set needs to be in charge! if both are the same they cancel out. Check the thread on the RC Forum here. www.rcgroups.com Then taking the advice here regarding keeping one rotor set almost unmoved I set about making the front set the ones that have nearly all the fore and aft control. The rear set just twitches a bit now where as the front set swash moves very clearly! I also biased the front swash forwards! so that you can actually see it when at rest. This I did by moving the puller rod to one of the outer positions of the servo wheel. Initial tests show I now have a hoverable heli that goes forward when asked even in a light wind

something similar happened to me where one of the screws holding the rotor came off while taking off. instead of ordering new parts online and waiting a week for them i went to home depot and bought a magnet (about 14 inches long) and swept my whole living room carpet and found it! 8)

Hi Mike, well i can hover nicely but trying to go forward is quite the challenge.I’ve done your mods but it still hard to go forward, the only thing i know right now is this heli does not like any wind whatsoever.I’ll keep you updated Mike. Tom

I’m hovering Mike but i went through about a gazillion blades,BUT I’M HOVERING. Tom

@tommcg46 Your first one! you are making a brave start, be sure to check out the other guide/tip videos for this heli on my channel I have updated a fair amount with significant changes! one being you only want one swash plate to move a lot not both.
Thanks for the comment, just go easy with the controls, there will be a tiny delay to the inputs you make and make sure there is no wind at all

Americans also call it “duck tape”.

Oh you mean pins, these are fiber and simply pull out of the body. Make sure not to crush them as I think you will find they are fiber.
You will see I replaced mine with tooth picks

  • surdez52:

i need to take the body off but there are two steel round pens below the rotors that go threw the body with rubber grumets. is there a way to pull the pens out so the body will come up and out

  • mikesndbs:

Sorry I don’t know what you mean?

  • surdez52:

how do i get the body pens out to take off the body, with out hurting the body, i need to change the front landing skid

  • mikesndbs:

Leaver it out with a flat blade screw driver and when you get the new one, file its clip down a bit so its not such a tight fit.

  • surdez52:

front wheel broke how can u replace it

Dont worry about answering my question now. I soughted it myself! after some exstensive searching to get it for the right price!! Ive also figured out the correct setting to make this helicopter fly correctly.
