Saw one similar to this at Stonehenge in 2009 and got a shot of it flying over the Stones, whilst I was inside. We thought it belonged to the Army or it was being used for survailence.

@dlancelot12 I agree, you could build a large quad rotor with a high end camera for a lot less.If you look,I don’t have link ,there is a large quad, with camera on utube.Build the frame and then have someone do the setup, programming etc for you.

I got a quote from these guys, it was around $50,000 for their unit plus: -HD camera with night vision, and infra-red, all the mounts, etc. This unit flys for around 15-20 minutes. I will be purchasing something more along the lines of a dual turbine unit that can carry a 15lb load…this draganfly can only carry a lb. or so…meaning your camera equipment is going to be super expensive because it has to be super small. This unit is for people with a lot of money and not a lot of brains.

  • danraf77:

    price??

  • baselover84:

do they all only fly for 15 minutes?

  • Pentecostal19:

I’m sorry but I can get video just as good using rubberbands with a good hd cam on my heli now for a fraction of the price of this thing.. It does look cool tho

I think video stabilization software was used on this shot. When you buy the Draganflyer SAVS you have access to download the software. The Draganflyer X6 is much more stable in flight and results in better video/photos.

Maybe things are a little more relaxed in the UK but in the US people are lawsuit happy. You would have to either close the location down to the general public or have them sign waivers if the golf course and production team had any sense at all. The down time on the course would cost more then the use of a UAV. Insurance to cover any possible mishap. Factor in fuel cost, pilot wage, camera crew wage, lost revenue from golf course. Full heli lost.
UAV:no fuel, quiet, safe, no FAA problems

  • brasser08:

a decent camera and camera man would do the job perfectly, most golf courses are privately owned so a permit wouldn’t apply, heli hire is regarded suprisingly cheap here in England and I’m sure its even cheaper where you are,I’ve used the skies with a paramotor for the past 2 years now and as you say there are restrictions to flying low but private land anything goes, here in the UK you dont need a licence to fly a paramotor so granted things are different for us but not as diferent as you claim

  • RepairBucket:

you can’t fly real helicopters that low without creating crazy wind in your shot… it is very expensive to hire a full helis. And the US laws make it unrealistic to fly this low without getting film production permits.

  • RepairBucket:

bought one and quickly resold it… you can build your own much better for much less if you do a little research prior….wish I had.
    Search “kquad” in rc forums
Then they quotes $25K for their new x6 with HD camera…. completely ridiculous.

  • sk8endorphin:

yeah but they could probably modify or make a new one to have a much bigger battery
    lighter body/frame and more power
and you could have multiple ones to switch off

  • josebuezas:

I don’t think their batteries last longer than 20 minutes…
and they can’t carry heavy cameras, and what if its windy, the footage would be very shaky

  • brasser08:

you would have to be an absolute twat to buy one of these to promote any kind of golf course, they are fuckin wank, real helicopters cost little to hire anyway for this kind of job

  • sk8endorphin:

if you can get a higher quality camera on these id say we have a replacement for huge blimps

  • burritomaker69:

They should send one of these over area 51 and since it transmitts video back to you it wouldnt matter if it got shot down or ran out of battery just as long as you were rich as fuck it wouldnt matter.

  • Jamalje:

That must of been awesome seem like you did a smooth flawless mission there! These are the things that really inspire to get up and fly and say I want one!
